It's a new day with a new newsletter
Outside of my comfort zone, but feeling good!
“It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me… And I’m feeling good!”
Okay, maybe not a new life, but definitely a new day with a new newsletter!
I might be getting a bit dramatic here, but while this may seem simple, this newsletter has been on my mind for a long, long time. Let me introduce myself and share the story behind it.
I'm Raquel, always trying to sum myself up in a good sentence (not easy!). A curious soul who’s packed a lot of experiences into 31 years.
Today, I’m the founder and creative director of Valsa Home, but before I was an interior designer. Before that? I was an environmental engineer—yes, really! A big change, I know. But, being curious means trying new things that feed my soul, and I’m sure there’s a lot more I’ll dive into along the way.
I’m originally from Brazil and have been living in Lisbon since 2021. Although Portuguese is my native language and naturally a part of my daily life here in Portugal, much of my work and connections have transitioned to English in recent years - especially after founding Valsa Home, my tableware brand, which has opened doors to new friendships and collaborations around the world. So, here I am, embracing English for this newsletter. It’s not my comfort zone, and I apologize in advance for any mistakes, but there’s no better feeling than stepping outside of it, right? So, here we go—challenge accepted!
A selection of pictures that could define me better than my words:

Lisbon was love at first sight and still brightens my days.
Simba is basically my shadow - always by my side and the happiest part of my days.
I’m married to my best friend, and I know how lucky I am.
I’m the youngest of three siblings in a family that would do anything to protect me.
I love being Brazilian, and I cherish all the good things about my home country.
Valsa Home is my life’s project, and I couldn’t be prouder of my "baby."
… this newsletter?
I grew up during the golden era of blogs, so I couldn’t be happier that Substack is bringing this back. This newsletter will be my little corner to share all the cool things I come across—books, travel tips, products, recipes, TV shows, and more. Plus, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes of what it’s like running a tableware brand, from the highs and lows to the creative process and the (very necessary) uncreative side of things.
I know that some of my previous community may not be able to follow me here in English, so in a way, this feels like starting from scratch. But I’m excited to find my new tribe here - and I hope you’ll be part of it!
I promise that the next posts will be more exciting and filled with all the inspiring and curated things I’m discovering. Are you with me?
Breakfast is served! Enjoy :)
Warmly,

Love this! Excited to follow your journey! I will check out Valsa Home - congratulations on running your own tableware brand! This is something I’ve actually thought of doing one day, so I’m excited to hear about what it’s like for you 😊 Also, Lisbon is at the top of my list of places to go - so I think I’ve found the right place! 🤍
